MAXIMIZE YOUR WORKOUT April 12 2015
Before a workout, you want to fuel your body with carbs, but not overwhelm it with a heavy meal. Try some whole-wheat toast with peanut butter and a banana or for a lighter snack, have some yogurt and trail mix. These snacks will ensure you have enough energy to maximize your workout without weighing you down.
Printed on the walls all around EPIC Fitness by Buffy are the sort of positive and uplifting messages that seek to motivate, perhaps give hope.
"I want to see something that makes me believe in myself," said Buffy Kaiser, owner of the wellness and fitness studio at 1506 East Third Street, Williamsport.
And, she wants to inspire others. A former state high school sprint champion who maintains a runner's lean but muscular physique, Buffy, 50, feels running her own fitness place was simply the next step in her life.
From 2008 to 2015 she served as wellness director at the Eastern Lycoming YMCA. "That kind of led to a really nice foundation," said Kaiser. "I found I really enjoy developing programs."
Unique programs for groups and individuals are exactly what can be found at EPIC Fitness.
And they are designed to fit a person's level of conditioning and readiness.
"The atmosphere is completely different from a gym," she said. "There are classes for different things."
Yoga, cycling, piloxing and TRX - a body weight suspension system - are just some of the programs offered.
In addition to Buffy, a number of other instructors provide the training.
"What we specialize in is one-on-one trainings and groups," she said.
She also provides individual fitness and wellness counseling.
Buffy said it's important that people feel comfortable at EPIC Fitness, that they not feel intimidated by peers who are stronger and in better shape.
She recalled her own struggles with weight, when she ballooned to well over 200 pounds following pregnancies.
The name of her business is not by accident. The letters stand for Empower, Passion, Inspire and Confidence.
"I specifically created an environment where people immediately feel welcome," she said. "I do everything integrity based, and I refused to open it until it was perfect."

These 4 routines are easy to do at home and use all your own body weight. You can also incorporate any of them into your gym routine to add a little diversity to your workouts.
Bicycle Crunch: Another core workout, lie flat on your back, lift your knees so your thighs are 90 degrees with the floor. Alternating right and left, pull your knees into your chest, reaching the opposite elbow across to touch your knee. READ MORE Burpees: A great full-body routine, start with your feet shoulder-width apart, Squat down and put your hands on the ground, kick your legs behind you for a plank. Bring your legs back up into squat position, stand and jump high with your arms overhead.
